It's summer already - beach, pools, surfing, cool drinks - we all love it. Let's create a summer beach party on the cupcakes. Remember! Don't worry about perfection, focus on having fun and being creative when decorating!
Supplies Needed:
Cupcakes
Fit a piping bag with a Kootek K01 and fill it with frosting. Repeat for all desired colors of frosting.
On a piece of parchment paper pipe and draw your desired cupcake topper decoration shapes. Examples: Surfboards, Innertubes / Pool Floaties, Sunglasses, Summer Sun, Tropical drinks, Flamingos, Tropical flowers, etc.
Then place your parchment paper with your pipped designs in the freezer until completely frozen; 20-30 minutes.
Next, pipe your frosting on the cupcakes. I like to use Kootek piping tip K41 to create swirls on top of the cupcakes then gently press them, frosting side down, onto a piece of parchment paper, then place in the freezer until frozen; 20-30 minutes. This technique will create a flat and even canvas for you to continue to decorate on.
While the cupcakes are chilling, mix up different colors of frosting for the different shades of water you want to create. Once colored, load your frosting into piping bags fitted with couplers for easy piping tip switching.
For the beach cupcakes: (1)Begin by dipping one third of the cupcake frosting into brown sugar and brushing off any excess until you are happy with the disbursement. (2)Next pipe your beach waves. I liked using a Kootek K16 tip to create waves on the beach, a K10 for playful ripples in the water, and a K04 tip for more of a detailed pattern, but you can use any Kootek piping tip for this. Pro Tip: I like to pursue the pattern chart each piping tip kit comes with, to get an idea of what is possible and help me decide which one I want to use based on the look I am after. (3)Carefully peel a frozen buttercream surfboard off of your parchment paper and place in the waves of your beach cupcake. It is best to work quickly with the frozen toppers as the heat of your hand will cause the buttercream to melt. (4)Add any additional desired decorations to your surfboard then place a teddy bear shaped cracker on the board as if it was surfing. (5)Finish your beach cupcake with an umbrella in the sand.
For the Bear in an innertube cupcake: (1)Create the ruffled water pattern with a Kootek piping tip number K10. Place the tip perpendicular to the cupcake with the thinnest end pointing away from the center of the cupcake. Using even pressure on the piping bag, wiggle the bag up and down to create the pattern on the outer perimeter of the cupcake top. (2)Allow to chill until set, then repeat to create a second level of the ruffle frosting directly on top of the first layer. (3)Carefully peel a frozen buttercream inner tube off of your parchment paper and place in the center of your ruffle cupcake. It is best to work quickly with the frozen toppers as the heat of your hand will cause the buttercream to melt. (4)Fill the center of the inner tube with blue buttercream then place an adorable teddy bear shaped cracker in the center as if it was relaxing in the inner tube.
For the Sunglasses cupcake: (1)Carefully peel frozen buttercream sunglasses off of your parchment paper and place on top of a smooth flat cupcake. It is best to work quickly with the frozen toppers as the heat of your hand will cause the buttercream to melt. (2)Repeat with any additional toppers you would like.
For the Beach Ball cupcakes: (1)Start with a flat white buttercream top on the cupcake. (2)Choose three bright buttercream colors: example; pink, yellow, and green. (3)With each color pipe a triangle on top of the cupcake starting with the first point in the center of the cupcake and the other two points connecting across the edge of the cupcake. Fill in and smooth each triangle. (4)Pipe a white dot in the center where each triangle point meets.
Add any finishing touches you would like to add your own flare to the summer fun cupcakes! (1)Pro Tip: use a stiff, room temperature buttercream for the best definition and user experience when piping. (2)Remember! Don't worry about perfection, focus on having fun and being creative when decorating!
Finally make sure to enjoy your fabulous creation by sharing it with loved ones!
