This cake is like summer in bloom. Sweet lemons, blooming flowers, soft ruffles, and a bright, joyful color palette! I wanted to create something cheerful and elegant, with a vintage feel, and this citrus-and-floral design brought it all together beautifully.
What makes it extra fun is how many different Kootek tips I got to play with. From ruffled borders to piped lemons and hand-placed blossoms, each element had its own moment to shine and layering them created the perfect garden-fresh finish.
This cake was so much fun to make. It’s a perfect mix of cheerful, classic, and summery, and it really shows how a few thoughtful piping layers can make a cake look detailed and elevated without needing complicated techniques.
If you give this look a try, I’d love to see your version!
whipped cream
To start, I used one of Kootek’s cake combs to add vertical texture around the entire cake. I love how this simple touch instantly adds character especially when paired with smooth whipped cream. It gave my blue base a striped look that really helped the lemons and leaves pop!
I used Tip K01 to pipe the lemons directly onto the sides of the cake. After piping each lemon shape, I gently smoothed it out with a small spatula to give it a more realistic, soft look.
Then, using the same K01 tip, I added brown stems to each lemon, just a little detail, but it helped bring everything to life.
For the bottom ruffle, I used Tip K53 and piped a beautiful blue wave all around the base. This was the first element that gave it a vintage, dressy feel.
Next, I used Tip K54 to pipe a white ruffled border around the top of the cake, it almost looks like a ruffled collar framing the whole design.
To finish the border layers, I added two extra details using Tip K61: A white piped border on top of the bottom ruffle and a yellow piped ring over the top white ruffle. These gave the cake extra structure and a burst of brightness!
For the flowers, I wanted soft pink blossoms to contrast the yellow lemons and blue base. I piped all the flowers using Tip K51 on a flower nail, then transferred them to the cake using Kooteks flower lifter.I arranged them around the top and the base to bring balance and softness to the citrus design
To tie everything together, I used Tip K23 to pipe green leaves around both the lemons and the flowers. This gave the whole cake a fresh, cohesive feel, like a lemon garden in bloom!
